At 9:30 a.m. Dover Area High School Administrators and Northern York County Regional Police Department School Resource Officers learned that a student "had been talking to others about bombs planted in the cafeteria," according to a police release on Thursday afternoon.
Around 10:15 a.m. a letter was sent to parents and guardians of Dover Area High School students informing them the students had been evacuated on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023.
A mom captured the evacuation in a video being shared on social media.
A visual search of the cafeteria was conducted followed by K-9s from the county sheriff's office sweeping the school, but ultimately, "no explosives were located,"| NYCRPD stated in the release.
Students were cleared to return to class at 11 a.m. or at 11:30 a.m. they could be picked up by their parent or guardian, police explain.
"The student involved in the threats was released to his parents. He will face charges through the York County Juvenile Justice System at the conclusion of the investigation," the police said.
